Gaming Picks E3 2014 (Personal) Feature

E3 is coming! A time to speculate and throw in Twitter any kind of crazy rumors. Obviously, I don’t have material of upcoming games (this isn’t a professional videogame journalist blog… well, is there any professional videogame journalist? xD). And we also we have the yearly “Who has won the E3” debate, something I find ridiculous, mainly because many lies / false videos / titles never released are thrown during E3.

So I decided to make this feature with a personal touch (and yes, it’s going to be a bit PlayStation centric, it’s my main platform right now), just with the games I’m excited to see and related material to those projects (like the previous works of the developers), a mix of new content to the blog (marked with a original New! tag and that will be unveiled during following days) with other already uploaded.

Shadow of the Beast (PS4)

Announced at past year’s GamesCom, I really want to see this game (hope still is alive, no news since then…). It will be a 2.5D Metroidvania, but the brutality of the CG teaser and the lore of the original games, make this one of my most wanted games right now… o at least one that intrigued me more. Old games didn’t age well on gameplay side, but some artistic aspecsts of them are top notch.

New Sony Bend Game

After some years releasing (brilliant) portable games, like two Syphon Filter titles and Resistance Retribution for PSP or Uncharted: Golden Abyss for Vita, all the rumors point that Sony Bend is developing a PS4 title. At first, everybody was expecting a new Syphon Filter game, but last rumors say that it’s something new. Can’t wait to see what this team is capable.

Project Beast

Another beast, but this is going to be a bigger one. Few days ago there was a leak and we saw something which could be the long rumored “Demon’s Souls Spiritual Succesor” From Software and SCEJ were working on. A bit of history about Demon’s Souls. Now it’s easy to say, but when Demon’s Souls (produced by SCEJ) was shown at 2008 TGS, a lot of people didn’t like what they saw. Honestly, the animations were rough, but I’ve to reckon I saw something special that caught my attention. After the release, Demon’s Souls legend started growing and then I was wishing someone would release the game in Europe. Finally, Bandai Namco released it with a special edition I proudly own.

After that, Dark Souls was released, this time with Bandai Namco production and the same development team. The success was massive. But, apparently, the main Souls team haven’t work on recently released Dark Souls II and all point to a new game with SCEJ production. Project Beast? Beast Souls? The answer, June 9th.

Uncharted (PS4)

What can I say about Uncharted. Easily favorite saga of PS3 generation. It got my attention from first game (it has flaws, but love the setting), refined the formula and set the bar of the generation with Uncharted 2 and closed the trilogy with another great game.

Now, and after some shocking movements inside Naughty Dog, can’t wait to see how it really looks, the setting, the story… but not too much, I prefer watching as little as possible so I can get surprised later.

New Giant Sparrow Game

I really liked “The Unfinished Swan”, start to finish. It’s not perfect, but has an original opening and after that, delivers other mechanics that really work, along an awesome world. I’m really hyped to see their next project.

Assassin’s Creed Unity

I’ve played all the Assassin’s Creed games, a saga started with the already past generation in 2007. The first game had obvious gameplay problems, with really repetitive parts, but the setting was incredible. With the second game, everything worked better, Ezio was a great character and the Italian cities were a delight. Then, we had another two games with Ezio (really enjoyed Brotherhood) and the saga seem to become stall. And after that, a new character and setting were announced for the (now) controversial Assassin’s Creed III, a game I still have to finish. Don’t know why, but I didn’t get into it.

So, when Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag released, I had my doubts. Everybody was saying it was great, taking the best part of third game (sailing) and delivering a great pirate adventure game (more than an Assassin’s one). Finally I got the PS4 version and I found and amazing game, specially all the sailing through the open maps. So, after that, I’m excited with the new game, because I almost always have enjoyed the saga and because we’re back to european landscapes, this time, France. Can’t wait to see more.

New Media Molecule Game

What can I say about Media Molecule? They really surprised us with LittleBIGPlanet but with Tearaway past year they confirmed they’re one of the best and imaginative game studios in the world. Can’t wait to see what’s coming next, maybe teased during their PS4/PlayStation meeting February 2013 presentation.

The Last Guardian (Is it Real?)

Another year, another chance to see if Sony finally shows The Last Guardian. I’ve been waiting since 2009 and all sorrounding this game like a bad joke. After two games, ICO (2001) and Shadow of the Colossus (2005) everybody was waiting for “Team ICO”‘s next game… And we’re still waiting. Will 2014 be the year and PS4 the console?

Other games

But certainly, we’re going to see a lot of game and I think that the last part of 2014 and 2015 are going to be amazing years for gaming.

Games like The Order: 1886 (Ready at Dawn), a new Resident Evil (Capcom), a new Mass Effect saga will start (BioWare), maybe Guerrilla Games will show a new RPG,  Microsoft and their exclusive line of games (Forza Horizon 2, HALO, Gears of War, Sunset Overdrive by Insomniac Games, Quantum Break by Remedy and more), Batman Arkham Knight by RockSteady, Destiny by Bungie (well, we’ve seen a lot of this already), maybe the next opus by Quantic Dream, The Division by Massive and Ubi Soft, maybe DICE shows Mirror’s Edge 2 or Battlefront, the new Tomb Raider or Deus-Ex, The Witcher III, Dragon Age III, Metal Gear Solid V…

And a lot of little jewels in form of downloadble games, like RIME, Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture, The Witness, SOMA,  Below, …

And there’s always space for nice surprises…
