Moment | Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End (PS4, 2016) – For Better or Worse

My first intention was to share Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End later, probably around July. I was thinking to have a 2nd playthrough, capture some videos, take lots of photos, prepare a Gallery post, a Landscapes post and share some moments. I know that waiting for the dust to settle isn’t the best way to have some impact or have more views, but right now I don’t find that so important and I also like returning to some titles later and look at them with some perspective. But today I’ve decided to share one little moment than I find really especial (and no, isn’t about two videogames related Easter eggs). If you haven’t play all Uncharted games by Naughty Dog, please stop reading now to avoid big spoilers.

Uncharted 4 has many great moments, some of them because they’re spectacular, like the chase, others because they’re really touching, especially for someone like me who started playing (and loving the saga) in 2007’s December. Some people find the game a bit slower or the set-pieces not as big, but I really like this Uncharted game being a bit different, because I’m also a bit different (and older xD) now compared to 2007. I was afraid because the changes (including a Director / Script change when game was already in development) but I think they have made an amazing work to close the Uncharted saga and that wasn’t an easy task. I find the story a bit more emotional in some parts, something that never felt in previous titles. Characters look and act more humanly and I’m not talking from a technical point (even if the models are incredible). Shooting sections are less continuous, with longer calm parts between them. Even if the exploration is a bit limited, it feels better than previous game and really liked arriving to Libertalia and being able to start exploring it calmly. In Uncharted 2 and 3 you were shooting from the very first moment you arrive to Shambala or Iram.

I’ll continue sharing and commenting details of the game and its story, there will be, as I’ve written before, more posts about different aspects of the game over the next few months. But now let’s talk about this moment. From the very first game, the relationship between Nate and Elena was one of the story’s arc. They always started the game separated, but ended together, a bit typical. In Uncharted 4, this relationship is better depicted, from the start where you find them living a “normal life”, with a regular job, a house, some travels, some nice time together… all apparently. Then, Nate lies her (to protect her? … we will see more about this on the video) when he goes with his (previously presumed dead) brother Sam, trying to help him by finding an old pirate treasure.  Finally Elena discovers everything and appears in Madagascar, but Nate continues trying to find the treasure instead of going after her. But Elena appears later, saving him and from that point (all the “From better or worse” chapter) we will see really good conversations about their relationship (with some little puzzles and actions sequences), in a beautiful landscape which reminds me of the very first Uncharted, including both driving a jeep. But here lies the difference, this time after another (and perfect) conversation, you find both driving, across the paradise, with a haunting music in the background. No action, no shooting like in the first game, no jokes, not even talking. Because there’s a time to talk, but also, and this is important, a time to stay quiet. What a moment Naughty Dog (with Neil Druckmann and Josh Scherr in the writing) delivered:
